What does Sawyer County Development Corporation (SCDC) do?

Sawyer County Development Corporation (SCDC) performs several functions, including, but not limited to: business development; financing for businesses; economic development; arranging financing for public governmental purposes; coordination of efforts between private efforts and public organizations; conducting surveys and compiling pertinent demographic data; and, coordinating projects which are contracted with federal, state, county, tribal and local units of government.

 

Are there any charges for Sawyer County Development Corporation services?

 

In most cases, there are no charges for SCDC services. The best way to determine that with certainty, however, is to call us.

 

Where does SCDC get the financing it provides?

 

SCDC obtains it’s financing from a variety of sources. Some of SCDC’s financing sources include: governmental loans and grants; financing from institutional investors, such as insurance companies and mutual funds; private investors and lending institutions, such as banks and credit unions; and, the SCDC Revolving Loan Fund.

 

What are the sizes of the financing packages SCDC gets involved with?

 

SCDC has no minimum or maximum amount for its financing assistance. The smallest financing package SCDC has arranged in the past year was $1,500, and the largest financing package the Executive Director of the SCDC has arranged was for $28 million (2003) for a tribal government. No financing package is too small or too large.

 

What kind of assistance can SCDC provide to businesses?

 

SCDC provides business technical assistance to businesses. Business technical assistance involves business consulting, business plan development, marketing consulting and assistance, accounting consultations, negotiations with debtors and creditors, and of course, financing consultations, which may include assistance in arranging financing. SCDC will assist any business regardless of whether it is in the conception, start-up, growth, maturity or declining phase.

 

Is the staff at SCDC qualified to offer these services?

 

Yes. The SCDC Executive Director has in excess of twenty-five years of experience in the private sector. He has owned and operated the following types of businesses: large-scale retail operations; construction; land development; financial; and, real estate related businesses. The Assistant Program Manager has experience in the agriculture and animal health industries. With these qualifications, the staff at SCDC is well-positioned to provide knowledgeable advice and guidance to businesses and if they don’t have the answers for you, then likely, they will be able to refer you to someone who has the expertise you need.

 

Is the SCDC Survey of Second Homeowners available?

 

Yes! The highly sought after SCDC survey of second homeowners is available upon request to SCDC members and member organizations. The survey includes valuable marketing data, which contains the expressed needs and wants for goods, services and products of families that have their second homes in Sawyer County. Nearly every owner of a second home in Sawyer County was contacted for this survey and an extremely large percentage responded. These families, who tend to primarily live in the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Chicago own a large percentage of the homes in Sawyer County and enjoy an average household income that is nearly three times the average household income of year-round Sawyer County residents.
